Trichomonas vaginalis TMA

Description:
The Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) assay is an in vitro nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) for the qualitative detection of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) from TV to aid in the
diagnosis of trichomoniasis. The assay may be used to test the following specimens from symptomatic or asymptomatic women: clinician-collected endocervical swabs, clinician-collected vaginal swabs, and female urine specimens. This assay is available Mon to Fri.
Clinical details:
Trichomoniasis is one of the commonest non-viral sexually transmitted diseases and a major cause of vaginal complaints in women of reproductive age. In women it commonly causes vaginal discharge, vulvitis or cervicitis and is associated with pre-term delivery and premature rupture of membranes in pregnant women. In men it often causes an asymptomatic urethral discharge. Sexual partners should be treated at the same time and screening should be performed for other sexually transmitted infections. A test of cure is not necessary unless the individual remains symptomatic or clinically relapses.
