Hepatitis B Genotyping

Description:
In-house sequencing assay that detects mutations in the Hepatitis B virus surface antigen gene and domains A to E of the overalpping DNA polymerase gene. Used to provide genotype and resistance profiles against currently used anti-virals. This test is not performed routinely every week but is batch tested according to demand.
Note: This test is not UKAS accredited.
Clinical details:
Hepatitis B genotype has been associated with disease progression and treatment outcomes in retrospective studies but is not currently recommended in guiding therapy choices. Resistance patterns are important for individuals who have had previous exposure to antivirals or who appear to be failing treatment.
