Description:
Detection of EBV VCA IgM is consistent with an ongoing or recent EBV infection (either acute or reactivated).
This assay is preferred over the now absolete monospot assay to diagnose infectious mononucleosis.
Please send EDTA whole blood for EBV DNA if the patient is immunosuppressed.
