Intravascular line tips and pacing wires

Description: 
Isolation, identification and susceptibility of any organism likely to be pathogenic
Clinical details: 
Investigation of suspected infection in patients with intravascular lines or pacing wires
Sample type and Volume required: 
Cut of tip of VAD/pacing wire with sterile scissors and place in sterile universal container


Turnaround time: 
2 - 3 days (up to 7 days for pacing wire tips where endocarditis suspected)
Storage and transport: 
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR).
