Haemophilus Influenzae (IgG) antibodies
Description:
This antibody is one of a group of antibodies commonly referred to as “functional antibodies”. The others in this designation are anti-pneumococcal and anti-Tetanus toxin. Functional antibodies are used to assess the capacity of an individual with suspected immunodeficiency to respond to challenge immunisation. When used to assess challenge immunisation a pre-challenge and a 4-6 weeks post-challenge blood sample is required. This test measures IgG antibodies to H. influenzae type b capsular antigens. The protective level is reported as 0.15 µg/ml and the optimal level > 1.0 µg/ml.

Special sample instructions:
All tests are compromised by prolonged transit times. For this reason, date of bleed and date of postage must be provided with each request. Immunisation history with dates must be given with all requests for Specific Antibodies, serum stored at 4°C should be sent by first class post.
Storage and transport:
Samples may be stored at 4°C prior to despatch. The use of first class letter post without the need for coolant is sufficient.
