Principal Clinical Scientist

Zehra Arkir started her career in Clinical Biochemistry in 1996 by undertaking an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry with Molecular Biology at University of Surrey and working block-release at Frimley Park District General Hospital.

She completed her Clinical Scientist training at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals (Guy's and St Thomas' Trust) and following her HCPC registration she worked as Senior Clinical Scientist at North West London Hospitals until 2003. Zehra returned to Guy’s Hospital to work in Paediatrics and Newborn Screening Laboratories.

She moved to St Thomas’ Hospital in 2005 as Principal Clinical Scientist and was an Acting Consultant Clinical Scientist during the formation of Viapath. She is currently the lead scientist for the Reference Chemistry Laboratory.

Zehra established the anti-TNF alpha service at Viapath as the first UK centre. She values effective training and played a significant role in the training of junior members of staff to achieve their HCPC registration.

Zehra has a broad portfolio of responsibilities, providing clinical and scientific advice in immunochemistry for local Haemato-Oncology teams within the South East London Cancer Network and also anti-TNF drug monitoring and cholinesterase phenotyping/genotyping. She has a special interest in Biochemistry POCT technology evaluation and adaptation into routine Metabolic Medicine. 

She is a member of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry, Diabetes UK and  the British Inherited Metabolic Disease Group.
