Brucellosis is a zoonosis which is very uncommon within the UK. In endemic countries, brucellosis occurs most frequently in people with occupational livestock exposure. It is also readily transmitted through consumption of unpasteurised dairy produce, from laboratory handing, and in people returning to non-endemic countries after visiting friends and relatives. Human brucellosis causes a wide range of clinical manifestations including prolonged fever & malaise, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, and neurobrucellosis.
