Oncology Cytogenetics at Guy's Hospital
Laboratory overview
We are a leading centre for high quality G-banded and fluorescence in-situ hybridisation (FISH) analysis of a wide range of malignant diseases.
Cytogenetic analysis can provide diagnostic and prognostic information critical to effective treatment decision making for oncology patients and relies on having the right diagnostic information from the best available technology.
Key features:
We offer an extensive portfolio of tests and a wide range of methodologies. Our high success rates and analytical and interpretive expertise enable us to offer a flexible service which meets the demands of oncology patient management.
The conventional method of cytogenetic analysis involves processing cells from fresh tissue samples containing viable tumour cells in order to produce a G-banded karyotype. FISH analysis targets specific genetic sequences; as it does not require dividing cells, it can be performed on a wider range of sample types, including formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections and slides prepared using liquid-based cytology techniques.
